I’m David, an adventure traveler from Newcastle-upon-Tyne in northern England. I’m also a Software Engineer so travel is limited to my 5 weeks of annual leave plus bank holidays each year. This means that when I travel I have to plan carefully and in an orderly way to make the most of every day. This blog will be themed around that kind of travel.
Back in 2012, I decided I wanted to travel the world, and with a love for nature, I quickly decided the United States would be my first country for an adventure. Having seen photos everywhere of the national parks such as the Grand Canyon and Yosemite I had to go see them myself as nothing beats actually being there. With a plan to travel solo for the first time I saw the United States as a safe destination and little chance of getting lost as there are no language barriers.
My first thoughts were how to get to these seemingly exotic but beautiful national parks and this got me planning my first adventure. I couldn’t drive at the time so a road trip was out of the question. I decided to base myself in three cities. 4 days in San Diego, 4 days in San Francisco with an overnight tour to Yosemite, and 4 days in Las Vegas with an overnight tour to the Grand Canyon. Quite a simple itinerary at the end of the day but it was a success and inspired me to continue exploring the world.
As of 2021, I have visited 22 countries across 5 continents. These include:
Europe:
England
Scotland
Wales
Republic of Ireland
France
Spain
Germany
Netherlands
Iceland
Italy
Croatia
Slovenia
Montenegro
North America:
United States
Canada
South America:
Peru
Bolivia
Chile
Asia:
Japan
United Arab Emirates
Oceania:
Australia
New Zealand
My upcoming plans for the next few years in a post-Covid-19 world include two road trips in the United States and Canada as well as shorter trips to Greece, Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway.
In this blog, I will be sharing the experience I have learned from planning trips in these countries as well as what I have learned from planning upcoming trips. I will advise on how long to spend in each location, how to get around, and what the best activities are. This blog will lean more towards trips in the United Kingdom and the United States as I have the most experience in these countries but I will be sharing what I have learned from my experiences around the world.
